Even in rural and urban environments, Coyotes play an important role in rodent control. A good part of their diet consists of rodents (rabbits, gophers, rats, etc.). Yes, Coyotes will eat discarded food stuffs and go after small pets, but both of those issues can be controlled. Simply keep outdoor trash inside tight fitting trash cans (this keeps rodents out too) and keep a close eye on small pets.

Over time, Coyotes have demonstrated that they are willing to share the same space with us. Maybe it’s time to leave them alone and accept their “good qualities”. We are a significant cause of large rodent populations in some areas – Coyotes are more than willing to help us out with that problem.
