I recently set up a camera trap on a newly formed trail leading into the Garden. I’m calling it the Fern Trail Cam. It didn’t take long to get a candid shot of these Common Raccoons. Not sure what’s going on here, but the scene has a comical feel to – it’s so racoon! The warm-tone color of the sitting racoon is interesting as well. My guess is that it’s an older animal. Check-out the fight scars on its ears.
Cool factoid: the Common Raccoon’s Latin name is Procyon lotor. Procyon meaning “before dog” and lotor for “washer”.
