The Gottlieb Native Garden

The Gottlieb Native Garden is a flourishing ecosystem belonging to Susan and Dan Gottlieb, friends of flora and fauna and devoted environmental philanthropists. With more than 100 hand-selected plant species and hundreds of animal species, the backyard is a National Wildlife Federation-certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat and a Xerces Society-designated Pollinator Habitat.

Male Anna’s Hummingbirds

Many young Anna’s and Allen’s Hummingbirds are looking a bit raggedy at the moment. These would be the last hummingbirds born in the 2017 season and are now molting into adult plumage.  In this photo, a molting sub-adult male Anna’s Hummingbird (sporting a UC Davis leg band) feeds as an adult male Anna’s Hummingbird wearing fresh plumage appears to wait his turn.
